La Villa Lodge Fishing Report

January is over , great group, all repeaters, nice atmosphere inside the lodge, fishing was ok, the river rose two times in the week, the water was very cold.

River have  better level of water, the water moves better.

In deep holes we used sinking lines with nymphs, in running waters we used floating with intermediate poly leaders. They were the most effective ways.

Most of our catches were with nymph( dead drift), 66 fish landed, 27  over 15 , 3 over 20 pounds.

Top rod of the week was  Colin G with 16 fish on the net,  biggest 20 pounds.

Jonathan B landed the biggest fish with 22 pounds.

Water Conditions

Water color and visibility: clear water.

Water temperature: 7c   to 14c  .

Water level: good level  .

Weather Conditions

Wind speed ranges through the week: there wasn’t much wind .

Air temperature ranges through the week : 6c to 16c.

Weather observations (sun, rain, fog, etc.):several days with light rains.

Fishing Conditions

Flies that are working the best: Different sizes of sunray shadows, small salmon  flies, nymph ( red tail, emb, prince, red butt, pheasant tail), green machine , for the last hour (intruder, leech, sunray ).

Green machine worked great this week, we used with floating and intermediate poly leader

Red but nymph tying in circle hook was the best fly of the week.

Fly lines (tips, heads, lengths, densities, etc) that are producing the best: Skagit heads with different lengths of T-17,14, 11, scandi with polyleaders .

We recommend bringing two rods, one to use with scandi and another with skagit lines.

Length and strength of tippet and leaders: 7  to 12  feet. 15 to 20 pounds.

Most of the fish are in middle and lower part of the river.

We started to see more fish at the top.

Almost all fish are fresh.

Weight of the biggest fish landed for the week: 22 pounds .

Number of fish landed over 15 pounds: 27.

Number of fish landed over 20 pounds:3.

Average weight: 9,7  pounds.
