I have just waved goodbye to a very happy team of clients as we have had the most wonderful week.
As one remarked, as soon as you get to Los Roques you feel at peace and so very welcome, it is the most charming island to spend time on.
Bone fishing is the primary focus, and we have all landed masses of them – up to 10lbs but the majority are in the 4-5lbs bracket which is an astonishing average size of fish. The population is so healthy and crucially, is improving given the lack of fishing pressure which is not something many fisheries can boast these days.
However, it is beyond the bone fishing where this place really shines. The post fishing debrief/drinks session in the lodge is always the most animated where we all come together and share our stories of the day.
“I had 4 tarpon, 4 snook and an 8lbs bone before 11am” was one memorable exchange. Some choose to hit the bigger fish such as tuna, wahoo, barracuda etc and some target the main 3 species on the flats of bonefish, tarpon and permit – there really is something for everyone which makes it so unique.
Combine that with a lodge staffed by the nicest people you could hope to meet and food that is genuinely top class and you have a pretty perfect environment in which to spend the week.
We have a new group of 10 clients coming tomorrow and they are in for a treat – lucky us.
